Political Importance of Nagpur

Political importance of Nagpur is the main reason behind Nagpur’s fame within Maharashtra and broadly speaking in India. In fact, the entire political community of Maharashtra moves to Nagpur for the Winter Session of the Legislative Assembly.

Every year during the month of December, the political scenario of Maharashtra shifts to Nagpur for two weeks. The Winter Session of the Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra draws the attention of the political community towards Nagpur.

Furthermore, Bombay High Court is situated in the city of Nagpur. The Bombay High Court adds to the political importance in Nagpur. Nagpur is among the three cities that houses the branch of the Bombay High Court. The Bombay High Court extends jurisdiction over the entire territory of Maharashtra, as well as on Daman and Diu. Besides, the Court tries more than three hundred thousand criminal and civil cases throughout the year and comprises thirty two judges. The presence of the Bombay High Court automatically enhances the political importance at Nagpur.

Besides, the existence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh adds to the political importance of Nagpur. Nagpur is the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is a Hindu nationalist organization, which works towards preserving the Indian spiritual and moral traditions. In fact, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is one of the largest volunteer organizations that contain about 1.3 million members. Due to the presence of this organization in Nagpur, political importance of Nagpur has increased manifold.

Thus, it is evident that the presence of the Bombay High Court and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, as well as the Winter Session of the Legislative Assembly largely contributes towards the political importance of Nagpur.
