Infrastructure of Nagpur

The communication system, municipalities, government enterprises, industries, etc, collectively form the infrastructure of Nagpur. The good infrastructure of Nagpur together with its geographic location has made Nagpur one of the most favored IT destinations in India.

Nagpur is a major railway junction of the Western Railways, which is provided with a good network of railways that connects Nagpur with the different parts of India. Nagpur Railway Station is the main railway station of Nagpur, whereas Itwari, Kalamna, Ajni, Khapri, Kamptee, etc. are the sub-stations joining the Nagpur railway station.

Besides the railways, the roadways also contribute towards the Nagpur infrastructure. Nagpur possesses two major highways known as Howra-Dhule (Number 6) and Kanyakumari-Varanasi (Number 7). The Integrated Road Development Project of Nagpur is an endeavor of the Government of Nagpur to strengthen the infrastructure in Nagpur. Furthermore, the Inland Container Depot at Nagpur is another program that works towards this cause.

Nagpur airport is one of the busiest airports in India. In October 2005, the airport of Nagpur was transformed into an international airport and was renamed as Dr. Ambedkar International Airport.

Nagpur possesses India’s first Multi-modal International Cargo Hub, which is also known as MIHAN. MIHAN works for the economically backward Vidarbha area in Nagpur. The decision of Boeing to set up a 185 million dollars maintenance base in Nagpur is another impetus to the Nagpur infrastructure.

Besides, the industries of Nagpur also work towards enhancing the infrastructure of Nagpur. Some of the industries that deserve special mention in this context are:    Engineering

  •     Food Processing
